The Last Of Us takes place 20 years following a global outbreak of a cordyceps-like infection, which mutates most of mankind into monstrous killers and causes the destruction of civilization. Pockets of survivors exist desperately in either heavily policed quarantine zones or independent settlements and nomadic groups.

In The Last Of Us you play as the character Joel, who is trekking across a post-apocalyptic United States in 2033, in order to escort a young girl named Ellie to a friendly resistance group. To succeed in your mission you must defend yourself against zombie-like humans, as well as hostile humans, employing the use of firearms and stealth, aided by capabilities such as a visual representation of sound in order to listen for locations of enemies. The player can also craft weapons or medical items by combining items found in the world.

The Last Of Us is one of my most anticipated games of the year and so far it does not disappoint. Besides the absolutely stunning graphics and storyline my favorite thing so far has to be the AI. For The Last Of Us Naughty Dog  developed an AI system called "Balance of Power". This new system allows enemies to react realistically to any combat situation they are placed in by taking cover, calling for help if needed and even taking advantage of the player's weaknesses. Also Joel carries around a backpack!! In almost every game I've played when a character picks up items they just magically poof into your inventory. In The Last Of Us the character takes off his backpack and stores the items scavenged away. It's small little details like that which I as a player appreciate.

The Last Of Us also features a real character driven story. While the infected former humans are a constant problem it is by no means the only issue facing the survivors. I know that doesn't really explain things well but I don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't had a chance to start the game yet.

Overall, The Last Of Us is at least so far completely living up to expectations. I truly can't wait to see where the storyline goes and why exactly Ellie is such an important part of it. I have my theories but since I'm barely in and don't want to spoil myself by looking it up they remain just that theories. I'm not sure if I will review the game in the future or not but if it is something you'd like to see just leave a comment below.
